Kirkland is a city in the U.S. state of Washington, located in King County. It is the sixth biggest city in the county and the twelfth largest in the state and is located east of Seattle. Restaurants, art galleries, a performing arts center, public parks, beaches, and a collection of public art, mostly bronze statues, can be found along the city's downtown waterfront.
Lake Washington runs through Kirkland on the west, Redmond on the east, Bellevue on the south, and Kenmore, Woodinville, and Bothell on the north. Kirkland is connected to communities on the Eastside such as Bellevue, Renton, and Bothell. Kirkland is west of Seattle, while Redmond is east of Kirkland.
A variety of performing arts events are held at the Kirkland Performance Center. Classes, workshops, and community-oriented gallery space are available at the Kirkland Arts Center, which is housed in the historic Peter Kirk Building on Market Street. From 2003 through 2011, Kirkland held the annual Kirkland Concours d'Elegance at Carillon Point, which include antique and classic vehicles as well as wooden boats from all over the country. Every September, the Porsche Club of America organizes an annual Porsche automobile exhibition at the Carillon Point venue. The city of Kirkland and a variety of charitable groups fund the Kirkland Teen Union Building (KTUB) in downtown Peter Kirk Park. During the summer, folks from surrounding communities rush to Kirkland to see the city's many Lake Washington shoreline parks. Kirkland also offers local parks, is bordered by the equestrian Bridle Trails State Park, and has a piece of Saint Edward State Park. A paved walkway connects the seaside parks and is open until nightfall. Another popular tourist destination in Kirkland is Juanita Beach Park. The Cross Kirkland Corridor is a rail-trail that cuts through the city roughly in half.
